Deb 'Spoons' Perry

Deb has been playing spoons for family and friends for more than 35 years.

Deb's first public performance was as a soloist spoon player in 1990 with the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra.

In the Gladstone City's Talent Quest in 2001 she was awarded the Audience Appeal Award.

Deb has performed twice on Telethon and has played with overseas, interstate and WA bands, including the Zydecats with Lucky Oceans, The Bushwhackers, Adam Harvey, Beccy Cole, Felicity Urquhart, The BordererS and Pixie Jenkins.

In 2003, at the Spoon and Harmonica World Titles held in Queensland, she was judged the World Champion Spoon Player.

For the last 10 years, while living in Bridgetown, Deb has performed with many bands and individual artists at the Bridgetown Blues and The Boyup Brook Country Music Festivals. She also plays at local fundraising concerts and entertains the elderly.

In 2007 and 2008 Deb supported Sydney's Jan Preston, "Queen of the Boogie Woogie Piano", when on tour in WA. With Jan she has played both drums and spoons.

In June 2008 Deb was a Finalist on Channel 7's Australia's Got Talent when she showed her ability with the spoons to all of Australia. She thrilled the audience and viewers at each performance with one judge claiming she had "raised spoon playing to another level and it was the best spoon act ever!"

Since Australia's Got Talent she has been performing with her spoons at country and city venues to various groups, plus giving spoon performances, workshops, conference energisers and motivational talks to both adults and school children.

In 2011 she helped launch Australia Day by performing in WA's Government House and produced a DVD "Spoonsperry" on which you can learn how to play spoons, learn more about Deb and discover interesting facts about spoon playing, plus see some of her amazing performances.

At the 2012 Tamworth Country Music Festival she busked and joined a few bands on stage. There were 600 buskers who were part of The Australian Country Music Busking Championships. Deb was chosen in the top 10.

With more than one million views in just over four weeks of a video clip filmed for Warner Music being posted on the internet in April 2012, Deb has become known world-wide for her spoon playing and has done many radio interviews and television appearances, including invitations to appear on American TV shows.

Deb had a Warner Music contract and during 2013 travelled to the Eastern States to entertain for the City of Sydney, Melbourne Fashion Week and various corporate events including the Qantas sponsored CEO CookOff for OzHarvest, where she entertained and taught 1000 people to play spoons.

With her own Deb "Spoons" Perry Show in early 2014 at the Fringe World Perth Festival her efforts were rewarded with near capacity audiences at each show. The show was nominated for the Fringe Music Award and received excellent reviews.

With her percussion background and using her body as the drum kit, Deb loves playing to upbeat music with her stainless steel dessert spoons and silver spoons. She also enjoys playing plastic spoons, wooden spoons and various spoons from around the world to all genres of music - entertaining everyone from three to 93 year olds.

For such a simple instrument Deb "Spoons" Perry certainly makes it her own.
